RENOVATION OF LISTED BUILDINGS

PRESERVING HISTORY – SHAPING THE FUTURE

basel and its surroundings are rich in historic building fabric. wilhelminian villas, half-timbered houses, industrial buildings – buildings with history and character that need to be preserved. at the same time, they must meet the requirements of modern life.

the renovation of listed buildings requires special care and experience. it is about finding the balance between respect for the existing and the needs of the residents.

CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS

heritage requirements: i know the requirements of heritage conservation and work constructively with the authorities. together we find solutions that protect the substance while enabling contemporary living.

energy renovation: even in protected buildings, energy consumption can be reduced – with internal insulation, window renovation and modern building services that do not affect the appearance.

technical retrofitting: bathrooms, kitchens, electrical, heating – the integration of modern technology into old walls requires creativity and craftsmanship.

material selection: where possible i use traditional materials and craft techniques. they match the existing fabric and are often more durable than modern alternatives.

MY EXPERIENCE

i have already renovated several listed buildings in the basel region. including a wilhelminian villa in the gellert quarter, half-timbered houses in the village centers of allschwil and ettingen as well as historic apartment buildings.

for each project i work closely with restorers, craftsmen and heritage conservation. the goal is always: to make the quality of the existing visible and secure it for the future.
